About Denise “DeDe” Lopez

DeDe Lopez (Denise Lopez) is a Swedish singer, songwriter, producer, and DJ with roots in Mexico. Born in Mexico City and raised in Stockholm, Sweden, she has built a career spanning more than three decades. With over 500,000 albums sold worldwide, DeDe is one of Sweden’s most internationally established artists.

Known for her distinctive musical style, DeDe seamlessly blends Latin influences with Swedish pop, R&B, hip-hop, and dance music. She is recognized as one of Sweden’s first female rappers and has worked extensively as an artist, producer, record label owner, and songwriter throughout her career.

Early Career & Breakthrough

DeDe’s musical journey began in the late 1980s in Stockholm, where she quickly became a sought-after dancer and backing vocalist. Between 1989 and 1994, she toured internationally with Dr. Alban, Melodie MC, and the globally renowned dance group Culture Beat, best known for the worldwide hit Mr. Vain. These formative years laid the foundation for her solo career.

In 1994, she signed her first recording contract with Sony Music Sweden. Her debut album TBA (Totally Bombastic Anecdotes) was released in 1995 and became an immediate success in Japan, going gold within a month. The single Party became a major hit, and DeDe performed for two consecutive nights at Tokyo Dome.

International Success & Historic Milestones

By the late 1990s, DeDe had firmly established herself as an international artist. In 1999, she was selected as the exclusive opening act for Michael Jackson’s concert in Gothenburg, making her the only Swedish artist to ever open a show for the King of Pop.

She has also opened for 50 Cent during his European tour in Helsinki, further solidifying her international presence across both pop and hip-hop audiences.

Collaborations & Creative Range

During this period, DeDe collaborated with some of Sweden’s most influential producers and songwriters, including Max Martin, Andreas Carlsson, Anders Bagge, Per Magnusson, David Kreuger, Jakke Erixson, as well as British producer Derek Bramble.

Internationally, she has worked with artists such as Pras, MC Lyte, and Father MC, expanding her global reach and musical versatility.

Independence & Global Expansion

In 1999, DeDe founded her own record label and music publishing company, gaining full creative independence. In 2002, she released the album Like a Queen in Japan through Epic Records, followed by her first DVD release in 2003, capturing the energy of her live performances.

Throughout the 2000s, she continued to achieve major success. The single Turn You On (2007), a collaboration with Pras, became a major hit in Sweden and charted internationally. During the same period, DeDe made her debut in China, performing at top clubs in Beijing and touring across Asia.

The albums Slave to the Sound (2010) and Black Lace & Leather (2010) further showcased her artistic evolution and musical breadth.

Recent Years, Television & New Projects

In 2018 and 2021, DeDe released the critically acclaimed singles Dare To Change The World and Dare To Change The World Pt. II, both achieving strong chart positions internationally, including a #5 spot on the US Top 20.

In 2021, she joined the all-female supergroup SUPER FËMMES. The group has appeared on major Swedish television programs such as Bingolotto and Lotta på Liseberg, and was nominated in 2023 for Best Pop Song at the Hollywood Independent Music Awards.

In 2023, DeDe released a modern reimagining of her 1997 classic My Lover, introducing the song to a new generation of listeners.
